FAQs

What is CBD?

Open tab

CBD stands for Cannabidiol and is one of at least 113 chemical compounds, referred to as cannabinoids found in the cannabis family of plants. The cannabis family refers to the non-psychoactive hemp plant and the marijuana plant.

Scientific research has shown CBD acts as a regulator of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), a large neurotransmitter network that helps the body and brain communicate with each other. Cannabinoids such as CBD and other plant-based components interact with the ECS in order to create balance within the body, called homeostasis. In many ways, the ECS is a bridge for the conscious mind to make sense of its surrounding environment.

What are CBD’s health benefits?

Open tab

CBD can be used to promote health and wellbeing.

Cannabinoids and the natural receptors found in the human body work together much like a lock and key within the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Cannabinoid receptors found in so many places in the body, such as the gastrointestinal tract, immune cells, and in the nervous system, are “unlocked” to help processes crucial for optimal health get started and stay regulated.

Studies have shown CBD can boost immune system function, increase alertness, promote bone growth, and encourage healthy skin. Hemp oil is a natural mood-lifter without psychoactive effects. Full-spectrum hemp oil actually stops enzymes from breaking down any unused cannabinoids that have yet to find a receptor, and therefore, makes more of the CBD available for use by your cells.

CBD has the potential to provide all-natural relief for a variety of ailments, including:

- Chronic Pain
- Inflammation
- Anxiety/Stress
- Depression
- Neurological Disorders
- Migraines
- Insomnia
- Restless Sleep
- Arthritis
- Cramps
- Seizures/Epilepsy
- Diabetes

Current research, much of it sponsored by the U.S. Government, suggests that CBD benefits include:

- Anti-inflammatory
- Analgesic
- Antioxidant
- Antispasmodic
- Antiemetic
- Antipsychotic
- Antiepileptic
- Vasorelaxant
- Immunosuppressant
- Neuroprotective
- Antimicrobial
- Antifungal

How is Sopris Health and Wellness different?

Open tab

What really sets our CBD apart is the extraction process. We use a patented, low-temperature, lipid-infusion process that gently massages the CBD, other cannabinoids, terpenes, and plant waxes out of the hemp and into either organic coconut oil or MCT Oil. This process is expensive and time-consuming when compared to other options but we feel it delivers a substantially more effective product.

Competitors use ethanol, butane, or CO2, to blast the CBD out of the hemp and convert to an oil. Some take the oil through an additional distillation process to produce what is referred to as CBD isolate. While convenient and efficient, these methods have several drawbacks, namely burning off terpenes and other cannabinoids found in the hemp that we believe play a part in the effectiveness of the CBD.

What is full-spectrum CBD?

Open tab

The term “full-spectrum CBD” refers to the presence of complementary cannabinoids, plant waxes, and terpenes in the hemp extract. Research has shown that full-spectrum hemp extract promotes what is known as the “entourage effect” - the magnification of the therapeutic benefits of the cannabis plant. When CBD is produced as a full-spectrum extract, the medicinal impact of the whole plant is greater than the sum of its parts.

The patented, low-temperature, lipid-infusion extraction we use allows all of the wonderful properties of hemp to be present in our products. We feel full-spectrum extractions are a game changer for the industry.

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?

Open tab

While there is still some confusion about the difference between the two, hemp is completely different from marijuana in its function, cultivation and application. Both are forms of cannabis but hemp contains high levels of CBD and low levels of THC. Marijuana is specifically bred to contain high amounts of THC and low amounts of CBD.

Marijuana can be used for medicinal or recreational purposes, depending on your state laws. Hemp, on the other hand, is used in a variety of other applications unique from the marijuana plant, including healthy dietary supplements, skin products, clothing, building materials, and historically, rope. To date, hemp is able to be used in more than 25,000 ways.

What is MCT Oil?

Open tab

MCT (medium chain triglyceride) oil has been shown as an incredible source of Lauric Acid and Medium Chain Fatty Acids, which are easily digested and sent right to the liver as a fuel source for the body and brain. Lauric Acid is naturally antimicrobial, antibacterial and antiviral.

Our Full-Spectrum CBD Oil uses MCT oil derived from organic coconut oil and a patented, lipid-infusion extraction method that gently massages the CBD out of the hemp plant. It can be added to drinks and smoothies or taken orally. Perfect for your morning coffee as an elevated “Bulletproof” variety. Letting the oil absorb under the tongue is an efficient delivery mechanism that delivers CBD directly into the bloodstream.

Sopris Health & Wellness Full-Spectrum CBD Oil is a great option for people who have difficulty swallowing pills, don’t mind or enjoy the taste, are looking for faster absorption, or are seeking the energizing effect of MCT oil.

Will CBD get me high?

Open tab

Ours won’t. The ‘high’ many people experience when ingesting cannabis comes from the THC cannabinoid.  All of our products are derived from a proprietary strain of hemp that is very low in THC.

Sopris Health & Wellness products are all hemp extractions, tested for THC levels, and legal in all 50 states. Our hemp is tested to insure that the THC level is less than 0.3% of the total product volume.  Even though trace amounts of THC may exist, there is not enough in our products to produce a psychoactive effect.

Will I fail a drug test from hemp CBD?

Open tab

All full-spectrum CBD products contain trace amounts of THC. Federal law mandates that the amount of THC must be less than 0.3% of the total product, so all of our products are tested multiple times to ensure they are federally compliant.  According to research, unless you consume an unusually high dosage, more than 2,000 mg on a daily basis, research suggests that it’s extremely unlikely you will fail a drug test.

Although the risk is low, the consumption of certain hemp products may lead to a positive drug test for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Due to individual biochemistry, the possibility of conversion of cannabinoids and the possibility of trace, but legal, amounts of THC inherent in hemp products, we strongly suggest consulting your healthcare provider before consuming any hemp products if you are subject to drug testing.

How much CBD should I take?

Open tab

Each individual’s endocannabinoid system is different, so we recommend starting off with a smaller dosage and working your way up. A small dosage could be considered anywhere from 10 mg - 25 mg.  We typically see people with a larger body mass starting with 25 mg and people with a lower weight around 10 mg.

Are there CBD side effects?

Open tab

Clinical studies have shown CBD to be well tolerated, with little-to-no side effects at small doses. There has never been a recorded overdose related to any form of cannabis, even for strains containing high levels of the psychoactive THC cannabinoid. When taking very high CBD doses, such as those prescribed to cancer patients, some people have experienced headaches, nausea, and fatigue. In low doses, such as in the Sopris CBD formulations, these side effects are very unlikely to occur.

Why is Sopris CBD tested for heavy metals?

Open tab

We are dedicated to producing safe and effective hemp oils, topical salves, and daily CBD supplements with full transparency through each step of the growing and manufacturing process. We test all CBD products for heavy metals and other toxins because even though hemp does an incredible job removing and cleaning up pesticides or contaminants from the soil, the plant can inadvertently absorb pesticides into the finished CBD product if natural growing processes aren’t used or pesticides were used for other crops grown in the same area.

While many of the CBD products in the marketplace are derived from hemp grown in China, Sopris Health & Wellness CBD products are developed using naturally grown hemp from a single source in Boulder County, Colorado. Our source’s land was previously used to raise chickens, meaning the soil is rich with nutrients and no pesticides. We are proud to be Colorado grown and Colorado made.

Can I take Sopris CBD products out of the state?

Open tab

Yes!  All of our hemp oils, topical salves and CBD capsules contain less than  0.3% THC, and therefore, are classified as hemp extract making them legal in all 50 states.

We also offer free shipping to all 50 states for orders of $50 or more.

Can I take CBD products with other medications?

Open tab

CBD inhibits the cytochrome P450 enzyme that is  involved in metabolizing many prescription drugs.

By inhibiting cytochrome P450, CBD can either reduce or increase the effects of other drugs. In some situations, it may be advisable for a physician to monitor a patient’s blood levels of other medications while taking CBD products. Please consult a physician before taking any hemp products if you are currently taking other medication.
